the new third eye blind cd...

ok...i'm gonna review the new 3eb cd that i just got today! daniel inspired me! haha...I MUST FOLLOW MY DREAMS! here goes...

basically...i have been waiting for this cd for 3 and a half years...the release date just kept getting pushed back and back and back and....ahh! but it finally came out today. and i bought it! and i was expecting some good shit, i mean it did take them 4 years...

frankly...i wasn't blown away. the first song is called faster, and it was one of the few i had never heard before. it's a bad choice for a first track, not necessarily a bad song. (FASTA! *giggle*) it's just too slow for me.

then it goes into blinded, which is a song that i know and love (or like, a lot). nothing new here, except there isn't that terrible voice at the beginning going "AOL FIRST LISTEN!!" hah.....umm...it's not THAT great of a song. i just like it. it's faster than...well, faster...HAH! and...tony's backup vocals are so rad. (too bad he couldn't pull em off live last week!) it's their current single, and it's a good choice for that, very radio friendly. all is good

the next song...is called forget myself. i heard the bassline at the beginning and flipped, this is one of my all time favorite 3eb songs. i've heard them do it live twice, and i have an acoustic version of it on my computer that i listen to alot. it is a really great song. however...the version on the cd is absolutely terrible. i have never been so disappointed in something! the song sounded much better live...it was more raw. on the album, this song, like all the others, is way too overproduced. third eye blind do not need production like that...they sound better when its less planned out, less perfect. nsync is meant to be perfect. rock bands aren't. dammit.

i just realized that i have no desire to go through each song individually...so from now on i'll give more generalized comments...

the best songs are my hit and run, crystal baller, self righteous, (kimya dawson makes it cool, man) and the hidden track.

i also enjoy misfits and palm reader.

the worst songs are the terrible version of forget myself and faster.

the whole cd has this weird soft wannabe reggae feel that kinda threw me off...

the guitar parts simply aren't as good as on the last 2. and that's because...they have a different guitar player. one who, perhaps, doesn't play as well. or maybe...just plays differently? i don't know. but kevin gave it a very distinct sound. and now...tony just don't have it.

the cd sounds like it was meant for those adult contemporary mix stations. you probably thought old third eye blind sounded like that too, but...well you're wrong. the songs that weren't singles were quite different. and a lot better...they had songs that ROCKED, like london, 1000 julys, camouflage, an ode to maybe...there was nothing like that on this album. probably because kevin cowrote those songs. fucker!

another thing that bothered me was the lack of a really great ballad...or...is it even called that? they need another song like god of wine or the background or motorcycle driveby or slow motion...and there isn't one. i guess my hit and run is the closest thing to it.

there's too many songs that are very obviously about a certain actress...and there shouldn't be! like...write about something else, dude! or make it less obvious what you're talking about.

wake for young souls is on here....thats an old song they finally recorded...this version is better than the demo i had, i think it's growing on me, i used to hate it.

see, now i'm just rambling.

so let me break it down...the songs aren't as strong as the ones on the first album, the musicianship isn't as amazing as it was on blue, it's majorly overproduced, the new guitarist isn't as good as kevin, stephan ruined a REALLY great song, and....no songs that really rock!

but...the dude's a good songwriter, i can't deny that. the songs are catchy, and some are even beautiful.

so on a scale of 1-10...i'm gonna go with a 6? i like it ok, but it wasn't worth a 3 1/2 year wait...i hated it on first listen, now, on like the third, i'm down with it.

how pointless was that? :)
