the warped tour....is really cool

ok so here we go....this will probably be a really long entry! i tried to put lil blurbs about each band.....in the middle.....of the crap....it's retarded, sorry.....!

we left at around 8am...my dad drove us, with my grandmother in tow because, just like last year, he does not trust me to drive to asbury park. i'm fucking 19 years old....but anyway, because of this, me, randy, and kenny had to squish in the back. it fucking sucked. i got the middle, with the hump in the seat and after a while it was really hurting my ass!

we stopped at a rest area (CHEESEQUAKE!) at about 10 and...we all had pizza for breakfast, haha. the place was infested with kids going to warped. one of them had simple plan luggage! another girl was using a straightening iron in the bathroom. this kinda confused me...but i told the people i was with and they didn't seem to think anything of it. so maybe it's a common occurrence. whatever...

the exit to asbury park was crazy....like it probably would have taken almost an hour to even get off because of the line of cars, so dad got off the next exit, then turned around and got off a different asbury park exit. we get into asbury park and the traffic is ridiculous. no one is even moving at all. we actually saw some kid get out of his car and run into subway to get a sandwich...haha....that was great.

after about an hour of just sitting in the car (it was after 12:30, we had plans to arrive at 11:30 because the gates opened at 12) we decided we should just suck it up and walk there since otherwise, we'd never get there. so we walked. and it was hot as hell. and we had no idea how far we were walking or where we were going to, but tons of people were walking and we just followed them. apparently it was a 4 mile walk. it sucked. when we saw the ocean i was so happy, you have no idea. we walked past the howard johnson we ate at! remember that krammy?? haha...yeah.

we finally get to the gates at about 2pm. kenny got his cd cases taken away. i think that's funny. i wouldn't think it was funny if they were my cd cases, but oh well. then...we were finally all set. we headed over to the big blow up schedule to find out that the ataris played at 1. 1 pm! it was already like 2:10. we missed them. i was pretty pissed.

i also noticed vaux had played at 1:15, so we missed them too. s.t.u.n. played at 12. bah.

kenny was looking at the schedule and writing down his times, and noticed that simple plan and brand new were playing at the same time, so he said sarcastically to me that it would be a hard choice for me to make or something, and the kid next to him was like "SIMPLE PLAN ARE FUCKING PUSSIES! BRAND NEW ROCK!" he seemed like all upset. it was a joke buddy! he kinda bugged me. but i was also in a pretty bad mood at that point.

so...then kenny dragged us over to the volcom stage to watch motion city soundtrack. apparently he thought i didn't watch them, but i did! i think they're cool. just because i wasn't jumping around like an idiot doesn't mean i didn't watch! haha me and randy chilled there sipping our lemonades...it was pleasant. highlights of their set were:

motion city soundtrack - the guy playing the moog or whatever. he was fucking crazy, screaming the lyrics and clapping and shit. i also enjoyed the guy with the receding hairline. they had a few people screaming and doing the pointy thing at them (kenny was one of them). other than that, there were no real highlights.

the used started on one of the main stages at 2:30, and i watched them while listening to mcs. there were waaaay too many people watching the used, so even though i kinda wanted to see them i made no attempts.

as soon as mcs finished, we had to rush to find the maurice stage, because brand new was playing there at 3. we got there and it was pretty crowded, and we were pretty far back, but once they started we got a lot closer.

brand new - jesse is somehow injured, so he was sitting down playing an acoustic guitar. some kid near us was quite upset by this, he was screaming "GET UP YOU PUSSY, IT'S THE LAST FUCKING DAY!!!!" and then during soco amaretto lime, when he says everybody wake up it's time to get down, he was singing, quite loudly, "everybody STAND UP, then some mumbling, a whole lotta words....YOU FUCKING FAGGOT JESSE!" oh man he cracked me up. crowd surfing and moshing was happening, i pretty much avoided it. i couldn't see too well, damn tall people. jesse was acting really odd, he said since he hadn't drank in 8 months, when he drank one beer it got him drunk. anyway, they sang i will play my game beneath the spin light, sic transit gloria, jude law, the boy who blocked his own shot, guernica, soco amaretto lime, and seventy times 7. in the middle of some song....i can't remember which, he sang a verse of tbs's there's no i in team...it fucking rocked. i was so happy! it's kinda weird...him singing the song that's about him, but it was cool. at least i got to hear SOMEONE sing that song....bah....my brother got raped by a crotch during the set too, which was pretty great....heh...

after they finished, kenny went over to the main stage area to see the starting line, and me and randy stuck around to watch coheed and cambria. they were sooooo much better than last time, and the best band i saw all day.

coheed and cambria - claudio had this wicked hat on, it totally contained his fro, and also some crazy orange goggles. they had to play as a three piece because "the garden state parkway swallowed travis".....haha...there was this HUGE dredlocked black dude with boobs and an atreyu shirt moshing like crazy....it was so great. the mosh pit was so entertaining, i was right on the edge the whole time, so i did get bumped, but it was worth it to watch that shit. there were girls, little kids, big guys...all kinds of crap going on in there. the band was awesome, too. they played hearshot kid disaster, devil in jersey city, some other stuff...all from the album, i just can't remember....they didn't play time consumer again, they said they couldn't without travis....they closed with everything evil again, and said it was about the garden state...a hateful bitch...35 cents every three miles....it was so great:) the worst thing that happened was when this kid in front of me was headbanging, and so was i, and we kinda hit our heads together. really hard. he thought it was funny, i thought it was fucking painful. i think this is the same kid who kept stepping on my toe. i really thought he broke it! but it feels better now, so i'm gonna go with no...

after coheed, we waited for kenny to come back, but got bored and decided to skip vendetta red to look at some tents. the guy selling merch at the tbs tent was in the boy sets fire pit at lollapalooza! randy got a coheed hoodie, i couldn't find anything that i liked anywhere. we eventually headed back to the maurice stage, which was ridiculously hard because the place was overcrowded and we had to walk past the alternative press tent where the all american rejects were doing a signing...that fucking SUCKED. we finally got back though, around 5:20, and i got a piece of pizza and a soda because i felt nauseous and figured it was because i was hungry. right before we went over, i noticed this kid that looked so much like geoff it was scary. he was a clone, i swear, except he was quite a bit skinnier. he had this really goofy grin on his face, even though he was all alone....weird! i saw him a lot after that too, and i think i laughed every time. we spotted kenny soon after that, and we all watched story of the year together.

story of the year - they were all wearing letter kills shirts, and they said that band had gotten beat up by security earlier. heh...one of the guitarists had a pink shirt...he rocked. their whole set was pretty good. me and kenny sang 2 songs with them! it was exciting. there was a lack of moshing and crowd surfing, at least near us.

then we went to taking back sunday's tent because i desperately wanted their shirt that said 'proudly swinging since 1999' because i think it is possibly the funniest shirt ever. and you're probably reading this and thinking...why? well....i also wanted the brand new shirt that said '...because mics are for singing, not swinging'....you probably still don't think it's funny. and i don't care. i wanted it anyway. but all they had left was youth medium, which, unfortunately, is not my size! then we went to the brand new tent, where they were out of that shirt too. we visited the ataris and got water bottles because the merch guy REALLY wanted to sell em. he was crazy. somehow i got a pin out of it too! we also visited the vagrant tent and got free dashboard stickers and buttons. then we went to story of the years tent to get their sampler, but they ran out and the guy from the band had to go get more from somewhere....he took his sweet time! but returned, and we bought ours, and he signed em, then the other guys signed em...oh, i bought a shirt of theirs too, which i really like. then we walked back over to the maurice stage because the all american rejects started at 7:30. it was hideously crowded for them. we were very very far away.

all-american rejects - well, they weren't very good. their sound was screwy, it kept getting louder and quieter, it was terrible. we made the best of it though, screaming the lyrics and dancing like idiots. i think kenny's high pitched singing inspired this crazy metal dude in front of us to start singing like an idiot as well, and he started jumping around like crazy, and then singing 'swing swing' in a metal voice...he was so fucking funny we were all dying. so, basically, the highlight of the all-american rejects set was the guy making fun of them. and we were all making fun of them too, i'm not sure why, but....yeah. like i said, i wasn't impressed. but they sang....my paper heart....shit, i don't even remember. i knew all the songs but i don't know their names. we left when they said they were on the last song...or maybe they said they were singing the song "the last song"? we may never know...they did start "the last song", but we were on our way and don't know if they played any more. we went over to the main stage area, and less than jake was still on. they finished, then glassjaw came on the other stage. we stayed at the other stage, waiting for taking back sunday. they came on at about 8:45, i guess.

taking back sunday - there were so many people here for them, it was pretty ridiculous. we were kind of far back, so we didn't have to fight off moshers and crowd surfers. only the people pushing to leave or come in. the first song they sang was the first song off the album. and no, i don't know what it's called. so sick of being tired, so tired of being sick. or whatever. that one. the next song they sang was the second track. i though it would have been cool if they just played the cd out in order. but no, the next song they played...was something else. don't remember. but at some point, they played cute without the e, you're so last summer, 2 new songs (one was called moshpit pt 2 or something, the other was called "EH EH EH EH" (aka a horrible noise the lead singer made) and i think 2 other songs from the album that i can't remember. the new guy doing the backup singing sounded pretty similar to the old guy, so that was all good. but the highlight of their set, and actually the whole day, was when that fucking crackhead climbed up into the rafters above the stage and dangled off of them to sing the last verse of the last song they played. i was scared for him, but also in complete awe, he was HIGH up. he had his arms and legs wrapped around the bar thing, but then he had to sing, so he let go and was just hanging by his legs. part of me wanted him to fall, idiot deserved it. but he didn't, he lowered himself so he was hang by his arms and just dropped. there was a security guard on the stage in a total panic, looking like he was ready to catch him...but then he didn't. he landed pretty hard on his legs and fell, but stood back up. probably in pain, but alive, at least. and then it was over...

another thing that was cool....the flyer we got on the floor of tbs's tent, it was a missing poster, and it had the 2 guys that are out of the band now, and it says when they were last seen and stuff, and then it has their new bands website. so fucking cool. i'm gonna scan it later cuz....i really like it.

then it took us awhile to find dad and claire, but we did and all was well. we stopped at the rest stop again to pee, and the first person i see when i walk through the door is GEOFF! i almost died. still smiling away, on line at burger king. fantastic. then i bought teddy grahams (which delighted everyone) and we left.

and now, i hurt. bad. my thighs are killing me, theyre so achy, i can't move much. my head hurts from the banging, and i'm walking like fucking ozzy osbourne. and i woke up to a phone call from my job, asking me to work but i said no because i'm going to see matchbook romance at the chance tonight, and then my mom made me type for 3 hours and....ahh. i wanted to sleep in today!

my face is kinda sunburned too. mostly my nose. i'm rudolph, yay!

now i'm showered and i feel a bit better. i'm gonna go to the mall and pick up some stuff before the show, and...that's about it! if you read this whole thing....wow, you're cool.
