my fairy tale

so....this is my fairy tale......it gets really crappy at the end cuz i got sick of writing it.....oh well....enjoy!

In ancient times, the Moon was the ruler of the entire universe. He was adored by most, as he was deemed to be quite a just leader. Everyone agreed that he did very well at an extremely taxing job; he was responsible for the whole of existence. Each planet and all of their plants, animals, and other dwellers were part of his kingdom, and the Moon managed to keep all of the inhabitants fairly content. Of course, only a fool would believe that any kings reign could continue into eternity so uneventfully. For this particular ruler, the trouble began after the birth of his first son.

The king already had millions and millions of daughters, the stars of the sky, whom he loved dearly. Deep down, however, he had always wanted a son. After all, what would happen should the Moon have to abandon his throne? He wanted a successor from his own family, and there was no way he would be able to choose from his many daughters. So when his son Jayden was born, the king took extra special care of him. While still a child, Jayden quite enjoyed being the favorite of all the Moons children. However, soon enough the young star reached adolescence and began to resent the way he was treated by his father.

Feeling smothered by the kings constant and often meddlesome attention, Jayden felt the need to escape, if only for one night. He waited until his father was occupied with affairs on the planet of Jupiter, and then began to leave his position. Before he got very far, he was halted by the voice of his closest sister, Espena.

Be careful, Jayden. Be sure to return before father misses you, and dont do anything stupid!

Jayden smiled and nodded to his sister and quietly slipped away. He wanted to visit Earth, for this was the planet with the most fascinating creatures. Being the son of the Moon, of course, had its advantages; with his powers, it took the star only a few minutes to get to such a far away destination.

He landed on a large farm, though he was unsure of its exact location. After wandering around the fields for a few hours, he became bored and decided that Earth was just as monotonous as the sky. He was about to head home, thinking he would try a different area of the planet some other day, when a young woman stopped him.

Excuse me, sir...but what are you doing in my familys crops? Are you lost?

Jayden thought she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. She was a human, which meant she had roughly the same body structures as Jayden. Her hair was long and flowing; it resembled a golden river cascading down her shoulders and back. Her eyes were a soft, pale blue. She appeared to be extremely gentle and kind.

The human searched Jaydens eyes for an answer.

Umm, sir? I said, are you lost?

It occurred then to Jayden that the girl did not realize he was a star, the Moons only son, and heir to his throne should disaster strike. For now, he supposed, it would be better to keep her uninformed of these details.

I am a bit lost, yes. This land belongs to your family? he inquired pleasantly.

Well, yes, it does. And I should tell you, they do not take kindly to trespassers, so you really should be going!

The girl was not trying to be rude, but she knew what the consequences would be should this boy be caught by her father or one of her older brothers. Jayden nodded in agreement.

Yes, I suppose that would be best. My father will miss me if I do not return soon. But before I leave, could you just tell my your name?

She seemed both flattered and frightened by his request, and answered after a slight pause.

My name is Vanessa. And yours?

Jayden. I suppose Ill be seeing you again, then. Good night, lovely Vanessa.

And with that, the young prince began to head home, leaving Vanessa in a daze. He had vanished so quickly! She knew now that he was not like her, not at all. And she could not wait for his return.

Jayden was not missed by his father that day, and so he began to return to visit Vanessa, a few times each week. Eventually, the two fell in love, and Jayden told Vanessa that he was a star, not a human. After she digested this, he informed her that his father was the Moon. She gradually began to accept this, and their love deepened.

It was a few years after his first trip to Earth that Jayden decided he would rather stay on the planet of his beloved than return to his place in the sky and his responsibilities as heir to the throne. Though his sisters tried desperately to change his mind, giving him facts about how long humans live, how stars are not meant to love, and how upset his father would be when he found out, Jayden could not be swayed. One night, he waited for his father to become busy, and he left the sky for the last time.

After a few days, the Moon noticed the prolonged absence of his son. He knew that Jayden had been visiting Earth, despite the boys attempts at keeping it a secret. The king scoured the earth from above, and spotted his boy with Vanessa.

Now, the king was not an unreasonable man, and he understood his sons desire to live on the earth and be with this woman. However, after keeping silent about Jaydens visits for a few years, he now thought he should put an end to this nonsense, and have his son return home for good and prepare to take over the kingdom.

The Moon shone extra brightly that night, to get his sons attention. When Jayden ignored him, he became very angry, and called out to his son in the most booming voice any creature had ever heard, and has yet to hear again.

Jayden! You have had your fun, and you must return home now! You have responsibilities! What if something happened to me tomorrow, you would be completely unprepared to be king!

To this, Jayden replied, shaking his head, but I do not wish to be king, father. I wish to stay here, with Vanessa.

Each night, for three weeks straight, the king would try and persuade his son to come back up to the sky. And each night, for three weeks straight, Jayden refused. The Moon now felt that he had no choice but to forcefully remove the star from Earth.

When Jayden started to feel himself being pulled back up into the sky, he pulled a knife from his pocket and pressed it against his own throat.

If you bring me back there, I will cut my throat, I swear it!

The Moon knew his son well enough to be sure that he was serious in his threat. Of course, he could not bear to cause the death of his only son, and so he paused. However, he could not allow such insolence. Rather than forcing Jayden to return to the sky, he thought of an appropriate punishment; he would turn his son into a horrible earth creature. A large, mangy, mutant dog with grey fur. Forcing his Jayden and Vanessa to roam the earth as horrid creatures like this for the rest of their days would certainly show his power and intolerance towards disobedience. And so with one bright flash in the sky, the two lovers were transformed into what would come to be known as wolves.

Since the three-week standoff had been visible for the whole of the universe, everyone knew what horrible thing the Moon had done to his very own son, and within a month he had been forcibly removed from his throne. The reign of the Moon was over.

Now, no one remembers the time that the Moon was the ruler of all existence. No one, that is, but the wolves. Each night, the wolves from all around the earth stand and howl at the Moon, in honor of the two long-dead wolves that had spawned them all. And each night, the Moon hears the awful noise and is forced to think about the way he mistreated his beloved son so many years ago.
